Dirges in the Dark is an exert from Shadows and Stars. The focus of S&S is on xenoculture and xenobiology and the raw loneliness the Protagonist experiences being isolated in another solar system untold light years away from the nearest human. I admit that most of my ideas, let alone my writing style, can be confusing. "Dirges in the Dark" represents the denouement off the three chapters revolving around the species found on planet Truvenya. While all twelve races have obvious interrelationships, the three found on Truvenya are especially interrelated all of them have a certain metaphysical theme between them.
None of the other Kyrites have such existential leanings.
Thus, "Dirges" is a paraphrase of what was just explained and explored in a few pages rather than several. Think of it more as the concluding rephrase of the thesis on an essay. Yet its still worded as a narrative and the odyssey of an individual between these three, a broader representation of the Narrator's similar struggle. Ironically, this, I think, makes Dirges a nice quick read of the ideas I am wanting to play around with.
